About Us

In 1982, responding to the need for transplantable corneas in the Dayton area, a group of local Lions founded the Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio. Since then, LEBWCO has been able to provide safe, high-quality tissue to surgeons and their patients while striving to be the recognized leader in tissue for transplant. LEBWCO has a commitment to quality, an efficient team dedicated to local and international communities, and is dedicated to the optimum growth of our organization.

We are proud to be the eye bank with the largest number of transplantable corneas in Ohio last year – an extraordinary accomplishment when you realize our region has the smallest population.

What We Do

  • Work with hospital staff to explain donation to families and obtain consent if it is needed.
  • Recover ocular tissue.
  • Process sclera, the white part of the eye, which is used in reconstructive surgery.
  • Perform tests and examine medical records to determine if corneas are suitable for transplant.
  • Promote donation in the community. If you are interested in having us give a presentation at your next event or meeting, contact us.
